Maple Walnut Raisin Cream Cheese

Maple Walnut Raisin Cream Cheese is so simple to make and unlike the ones you buy, you will know exactly what you are eating. While I won’t pretend to say this is “healthy”, it does only use natural ingredients. That’s helps…right? A bit of brown sugar, pure maple syrup, cinnamon and molasses. Then you have raisins and walnuts which are full of protein and some fiber too. So far, so good!

Maple Walnut Cream Cheese

Maple Walnut Raisin Cream Cheese Spread is an amazing topping for bagels. It has a warm maple flavor with the rich sweetness of honey, crunchy walnuts, chewy raisins and just a touch of molasses and cinnamon making it the perfect spread for your bagel any time of day.

To make this recipe, allow the cream cheese to reach room temperature. It will make it softer and easy to whip in all of the flavors. Since I prefer a chunky spread, I will coarsely chop both the raisins and the walnuts. If you prefer a smoother spread, simply chop them a bit more.

Also, if you have a little extra time, I recommend toasting the walnuts in a skillet for just a minute or two.  This will enhance the flavor and ensure they stay crispy when added to the spread

While I prefer to use regular cream cheese for this recipe, it could also be made with Neufchatel cheese (also known as “low-fat cream cheese”) and it will have 30% less fat, but still taste great. I personally wouldn’t recommend fat-free varieties of cream cheese because the texture is NOT the same and it just doesn’t have any flavor. Neufchatel, which is naturally lower in fat, still has a pretty great flavor so opt for that.
